MULTIPARTITE VIRUS

A multipartite virus, sometimes known as a hybrid virus, is a fast-moving virus that attacks the boot sector and executable files simultaneously using file infectors or boot infectors. The majority of viruses affect the boot sector, the operating system, or the program files.

The multipartite virus has the ability to attack both the boot sector and program files at the same time, causing greater harm than any other virus.

Because it hooks on to the hard drive that stores the data needed to start the computer when the boot sector is infected, merely turning on the computer will trigger a boot sector virus. Destructive payloads are launched throughout the program files after the virus has been activated.

A multipartite virus infects computers several times and at various times. The entire infection must be removed from the system in order to be destroyed.

HOW MULTIPARTITE VIRUS WORK?

Multipartite viruses, unlike most other computer viruses, can spread when the infected computer is turned on. The virus usually spreads by attaching itself to executable files, although it can also propagate during boot up. This is known as a "boot infector," and it's especially dangerous because it targets otherwise vital portions of the computer's hard disk.

SIGNS OF A MULTIPARTITE VIRUS INFECTION

How do you know if one or more of your small business’s computers have been infected with a multipartite virus?

Constant pop-up warnings showing that the computer's virtual memory is low are a suspicious symptom. The virus will automatically eat RAM as it spreads to the computer's executable files. The operating system (OS) may reply with a pop-up message as the computer's available, unused RAM shrinks.

Depending on the type of multipartite virus, the infected computer's hard disk may be reformatted automatically. This is done in an attempt to defeat anti-virus software and other traditional malware security measures. The multipartite virus may reformat the computer's hard drive to reinfect it even if anti-malware software removes the infestation.
